Gout Relief Without the Hype

Gout Relief Without the Hype

Gout is an arthritic-related occurrence that allows an excessive amount of uric acid to attack different joints in your body, with the big toe being the most frequented victim. While gout attacks are extremely irritating and painful, you will find that there are a few different things you can do to experience some gout relief. If you need some gout relief, you will also find it to be a good idea to speak with your doctor.

Gout is a disease that causes swelling along with a hot, burning sensation. There are quite a few places that gout can attack and inflame, such as the kidneys, fingers, wrists, heels, knees and most commonly the feet. To be even more specific, the most common place on your feet to experience the horribly painful and irritating symptoms of gout is your big toe. Now, you are likely wondering why your big toe would be the one part of your body to most commonly experience the symptoms that gout has to offer, but the answer is actually fairly easy to understand. The reason your big toe is likely the one part of your body to take the attacks is because the metatarsal-phalangeal connects to the base of your big toe. Now, you are likely wondering what this joint does that would cause it to have to suffer so much potential pain. Like all diseases, gout is looking for an area of your body to attack that is cool and isolated. If you think about it, your feet are sort of being left alone by the rest of your body, so gout would rather go after them opposed to attacking areas where there are plenty of “defenders” around. If you have experienced a sudden onset of a shooting, burning sensation in any of the aforementioned areas that will typically last for a few hours before returning once again, you likely want to know what you can do for gout relief.

Gout Relief Without the Hype

When it comes to gout relief, there are a few options for you to consider. However, you might want to know what actually causes gout and that it is linked to arthritis. Gout can be caused by having an excessive amount of uric acid in your body, which can be caused by a few different things, such as too much protein, purines found in multiple fruits and vegetables that are a little more acidic, sugary and fruity drinks. Gout is also something that you can be genetically predisposed to, so if you know of a family member who has or is currently suffering from gout, you should make some changes in your lifestyle and diet to reduce the possible onset of gout. If you do not know what uric acid is, you should also know a little bit about it and what it does. Uric acid is a chemical compound found in your blood stream which is used by your body to break down things you eat. In other words, it is sort of like a fluid mixed with a processor that washes away things that your body needs to dispose of.

Now that you know a little more about what is gout and its root causes are, you want to know how to at least give yourself temporarily relief from its nagging attacks. You will find that you have quite a few options to relieve yourself from the symptoms of gout, and some are a little more effective than others. You will find that most people take some sort of NSAID during their first gout attack. While this can offer some relief from the gout attack, NSAIDs may not be your best option considering that they are essentially just pain killers, and they can react in strange ways with other medications you may be taking. Your better bet would be to speak with your family physician about the gout symptoms you have been experiencing, and they will be able to give you a prescription for some type of medication, whether it is a general steroid or something actually designed to fight off gout attacks. Before taking any type of medication, whether you need a prescription or not, you should consult with your doctor because they are the only ones who can tell you if there will be any issues with you mixing different types of medications or if you have any other health issues that might interfere with the gout medication.

Gout is one disease that you do not want to experience because of how nagging it can be and the possible joint damage it can cause. On a better note, you now know what you need to do to get some gout relief. The next time you experience gout-related symptoms, you should setup an appointment to speak with your physician.
